Are you nearing the stage where your physician is threatening diabetes medication if you don’t get your glucose under control?
Have you already been prescribed medication, but refuse to take it fearing the side effects?
This is the time to take your health seriously. Get your health goals in order and begin your list of foods that are easy on your glucose levels; foods that you like.
Think nutrition. Vegetables, green leafy foods, plant-based foods – you really need to incorporate these into each meal.
Why? They are low glycemic and easy to digest. Without realizing, many with diabetes are not absorbing the vital nutrients we need for reversing type 2 diabetes without medication.
Did you know that skipping breakfast is not going to help lower your glucose? You need to feed yourself nutrients that help kick start your metabolism.
Start with a small breakfast. I am not suggesting bagels, toast or cereal. If you eat eggs, then make a small veggie omelet or crustless quiche. This is a great way to incorporate vegetables into your breakfast.
I enjoy steak, chicken and fish. If you are not looking to become vegetarian, no worries. Quality and quantity is key. Overeating animal protein, especially for dinner, may not be as kind to your glucose levels as you think.
Rethink those late-night snacks. Are you eating because you are hungry or bored? It’s time to be honest with yourself. Try a little ice water with a lemon or lime, or a cup of herbal tea to curb that itch for a late snack.
Consider other aspects of your life as well. Activity, stress levels, getting back to hobbies you love. Reversing type 2 diabetes without medication is about gaining balance in your life.
While many people see results in weeks, reversing type 2 diabetes is not a race. Don’t be in a hurry to stop your medication and only do so with professional guidance.
